Madia, a senior at an alternative school, faced numerous challenges on her path to success. Despite truancy issues and the need to work to support her family, Madia was determined to pursue a career in the health and nursing field.
Madia initially worked as a Home Health Aide (HHA) while balancing her school responsibilities. Her dedication paid off when she recently earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate. With a clear goal in mind, she set her sights on obtaining her Trained Medication Aide (TMA) certification.
Recognizing the financial burden of further education, Madia reached out to the Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council (PIC) for tuition assistance. Our Youth Support Services (YSS) and Youth at Work Programs were able to provide the support she needed. The TMA classes were held in Granite Falls, and despite not having a car, the Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council helped her secure reliable transportation to attend her classes.
Madia's determination didn't stop at her educational pursuits. She worked tirelessly, completing her school packets and making up all her hours of detention from truancy. Her hard work paid off, and she was able to participate in her high school graduation ceremony—a significant milestone in her journey.
In addition to her studies, Madia continued working as a CNA. Her commitment and reliability led her to take on more shifts than scheduled, increasing her earnings. With her TMA certification, Madia received a higher hourly wage, further supporting her financial stability and career advancement.
Madia's ultimate goal is to become a Registered Nurse. Her journey so far is a testament to her resilience, determination, and unwavering dedication to her future. With the support of the Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council and her relentless spirit, Madia is well on her way to achieving her dreams and making a significant impact in the healthcare field.
