Josué’s Success Story

Josué T. Lobato Cruz’s journey to building a new life in Minnesota is one of resilience, determination, and community support. Josué faced significant challenges but remained committed to self-improvement. “When I arrived in Minnesota, I felt lost and with few options to advance professionally,” he shared. Working limited hours at an ice cream processing plant, he struggled to find opportunities and applied to more than 200 jobs, only to face rejection due to a lack of certifications. Despite the frustration, Josué was determined to move forward.

His turning point came when he discovered the Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council and its generous donors. Through their support, he enrolled in an interpretation course that expanded his knowledge and improved his professional skills. “This course has given me greater confidence in my abilities and a stronger belief in myself,” Josué reflected. With this newfound confidence, he secured more hours at work and became more connected to his community. He credits his instructors for their guidance and encouragement, noting, “They not only guided me through the technical aspects of the course but also inspired me to strengthen my determination to keep pursuing my dreams.”

Josué also began volunteering with the United Community Action Partnership (UCAP), where he learned about tax preparation and explored opportunities to assist as an interpreter for those in need. “This not only helps me develop my skills but also allows me to give back to the community that has supported me so much,” he said.

Now working full-time at the ice cream processing plant and continuing his volunteer efforts, Josué feels empowered and ready to face new challenges. “Thanks to the guidance I’ve received and my determination, I’ve learned not to give up on my dreams and to stay committed to helping those in need,” he expressed. Grateful for the opportunities he has been given, Josué looks forward to continuing his education and one day becoming a professional medical interpreter, while also contributing to the community that inspires him daily.
