February marks Career Technical Education (CTE) Month, a time to recognize the impact of CTE programs in preparing students and workers for high-demand careers. At the Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council (PIC), we are dedicated to strengthening career pathways through hands-on learning, workforce training, and industry partnerships that equip individuals with the skills they need to succeed.
One of our initiatives is the Pathways to Prosperity and Youth at Work Programs, which provides training in fields like healthcare, welding, and manufacturing, offering individuals the credentials they need to enter the workforce. Our Youth Career Connectors work with employers and educators to provide students with opportunities for career exploration, career awareness, and workplace experiences. Through work-based learning activities, career-focused events, and real-world job experiences, we help students make informed career choices while building a pipeline of skilled workers for Southwest Minnesota.
A key partner in our youth-focused CTE initiatives is LYFT Career Pathways—a regional effort to expand career and technical education opportunities for high school students. Through this partnership, we help students gain hands-on experience, explore different career paths, and connect with local employers in a variety of industries. LYFT Career Pathways is instrumental in bringing together schools, businesses, and workforce organizations to create innovative, student-centered CTE programs that prepare the next generation for success.
Additionally, our Summer Internship Programs, in collaboration with county commissioners, offer paid, hands-on work experiences for students, connecting them with local businesses and industries. These internships allow young people to gain valuable workplace skills, build professional networks, and explore career opportunities in their communities.
CTE is more than just career training—it’s about preparing the next generation of workers and strengthening our regional economy. By connecting students and job seekers to internships, apprenticeships, technical education, and industry-led initiatives like LYFT Career Pathways, we help create sustainable career pathways.
As we celebrate CTE Month, we encourage students, educators, and businesses to explore how career technical education can transform lives and build a stronger workforce. To learn more about CTE month and Minnesota-specific data, please visit ACTE’s website or click on the images below.
