In the spirit of Women in Construction Week (March 3-9, 2024) and Women’s History Month, we are thrilled to share some news that reflects the heart of empowerment and opportunity for women in the workforce. At the Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council, we are excited to announce our recent success securing the Women’s Economic Security Act (WESA) grant.
This grant, given to us by the Department of Employment and Economic Development, represents our ongoing commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity in the workplace. With $150,000 awarded for the State Fiscal Year 2024/2025, our organization’s proposal, the WISE Project (Women in Skilled Employment), has been chosen to continue implementing initiatives to break barriers and create pathways to success for women in nontraditional occupations.
In a region with a growing immigrant population and significant racial diversity, our mission is to provide girls and women of color, as well as low-income women, with the tools and resources they need to thrive in high-wage, high-demand industries. Through a comprehensive range of opportunities, including academic and college credit, industry-recognized credentials, and on-the-job training, the WISE Project seeks to empower women to pursue careers in fields traditionally held by men in southwest and south central Minnesota.
We understand that the journey to a nontraditional career path is often challenging. From societal pressures to systemic biases, women face unique obstacles that can hinder their progress. However, with our experienced team and network of dedicated partners, we are committed to offering support every step of the way.
As we celebrate the invaluable contributions of women in the construction industry and beyond, we extend an invitation to all women who aspire to explore nontraditional career opportunities. Whether you’re interested in manufacturing, construction, transportation, energy, IT, or law enforcement, the Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council is here to help you turn your dreams into reality. Together, we can pave the way for a future where every woman has the opportunity to thrive in the workforce.
